HOBY Oklahoma

Alumni Opportunities

HOBY Oklahoma offers several opportunities for Alumni to stay engaged after attending HOBY. Whether you attended last year, five years ago, or are now looking to send your kids to HOBY, we want to stay in touch!

Newsletter

  • Sent once monthly

  • Includes updates about the current seminar, opportunities for alumni, and more

  • All alumni from recent years are automatically added, if a valid email address was on file

  • Not receiving the newsletter? Send an email to okhobyalumni@gmail.com and ask to be added! In the email, we’d love to know your name and what year you attended HOBY.

Leadership for Service (L4S)/The 100-Hour Challenge

  • Leadership for Service (L4S) has undergone major changes since 2024! Instead of a portal, it’s now a Google Sheet template that you fill out and track hours in.

  • The 100-Hour Challenge is presented to Ambassadors at the Seminar each year. To complete the challenge, you must complete and track at least 100 hours of community service in your L4S Log by July 31st of the next year.

  • Those who complete the challenge are eligible to apply for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) when it opens.
    • Anyone can apply for the PVSA, not just recent Alumni!
    • The PVSA recognizes the total number of service hours accomplished between August 1 and July 31 of each year.
    • Recipients of the PVSA receive a signed certificate from HOBY, a signed letter from the current President of the United States, and a pin.
    • There are two different categories considered, with 4 Award tiers each.
      • Young Adults (16-25) earn the Bronze Award with 100-174 hours, the Silver Award with 175-249 hours, the Gold Award with 250+ hours, and the Lifetime Award with 4000+ hours.
      • Adults (26+) earn the Bronze Award with 100-249 hours, the Silver Award with 250-499 hours, the Gold Award with 500+ hours, and the Lifetime Award with 4000+ hours.
    • To apply for the PVSA, visit this page to access the L4S Challenge Verification form. This form is typically due by August 31st, but keep an eye out on our Social Media for updates!

  • Looking to get started on your L4S Log? Here’s how you can!
    • View the Guide here. Within the guide, there is a link to make a personal copy of the Service Log Template (a Google Sheet).
    • Having trouble making a personal copy or getting an error message when trying to access the Template? Send an email to us asking for a copy of the Template at okhobyalumni@gmail.com
    • Please ensure you follow the directions in the Template so your hour calculator works correctly! You’ll submit a copy of this file to the PVSA (in the L4S Challenge Verification form).

  • Are you a recipient of the PVSA? We’d love to hear from you if you are! Tag us in a photo of your award package on social media, or send us an email.

Alumni Engagement Opportunities

  • The best place to hear about opportunities to connect and engage with other Alumni is through the monthly newsletter! We will also post these events on our social media.

  • Current ongoing offerings include a Book Club and a Gaming Club, both on Discord. If you’d like to join, visit the latest edition of the Newsletter (information on how to sign up above).

  • We plan a Summer Alumni Event/Seminar Reunion each year, following the Seminar.

  • Have an idea of an alumni event you’d personally like to attend? Have a service project that you need volunteers for? Send us suggestions at okhobyalumni@gmail.com!
